OMG! Justin Bieber Contest on YouTube! (With Some Others)
Are you tired of following Justin Bieber on Twitter and Facebook, and yearn for something more? YouTube has just the ticket, with a "My YouTube" contest.
Beginning later on Wednesday, YouTube will launch My YouTube, a competition to see which of several top artists can attract the most fans. The winner (besides YouTube, which will gain a new batch of subscribers) will be the artist who amasses the most subscribers to the artist's channel over the next two months.
The artists, and their channels, include:
Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Shakira, Maroon 5, Selena Gomez, Kanye West, Greyson Chance, Ciara, John Legend, , Lenny Kravitz, and OK Go.
The contest will end on Feb. 5, and the five winning artists with the greatest number of subscribers will be featured on the YouTube masthead page on Feb. 12.
What's in it for the fans? A chance to be entered to a raffle to win concert tickets, CDs, an iPod shuffle and more, YouTube said. Users will earn "points" for subscribing to the artist's channel, subscribing to that artist's recommended channel, and sharing to Facebook and Twitter.
PCMag.com has not endorsed any of the performers mentioned by YouTube, including Shakira and her mesmerizing, shimmying torso. The hips, however, do not lie.
YouTube recently included a new, skippable ad format as well as a remote app that controls Google TV and the PC version of its Leanback technology.
